Child bride or schoolgirl? Music video shows heartbreaking reality in Chad

A girl in Chad is more likely to die in childbirth than attend secondary school. That grim message sets the scene for a video that is both heartbreaking and hopeful and has just racked up more than 100,000 views on YouTube.

In the African country, 68% of girls are married off as children – wrecking their hopes of education and a brighter future.

Bruno Maes, UNICEF Representative in Chad, said: “Girls who are married before their 18th birthdays are not only denied their childhood but are often socially isolated and subjected to violence, and limited opportunities for education and employment.â€

, the United Nations children's agency, turned to American musician and producer RL Grimes to provide a haunting backdrop for this video shot in Chad.Â
